Starting off in Murcia, merely a brief stopover in Spain’s southeastern region, my journey to Almería was more than just a transition between cities—it was an emotional exploration amidst the backdrop of history, culture, and captivating natural landscapes.

Exiting Murcia, the landscape quickly transformed, leading to the challenging twisty mountain roads. Each curve brought forth not only the thrill of the drive but also unveiled spectacular views that stretched far and wide.

Mazarrón and its bay appeared like a tranquil oasis of blue, surrounded by rugged landscapes. The town of Águilas stood as a sentinel, overseeing the Mediterranean, while Vera’s whitewashed buildings gleamed in the distance, reflecting the region’s Andalusian influence.

However, it was the drive near Garrucha and Huércal-Overa that truly emphasized the raw beauty of the region. Here, the road meandered through the mountains, offering vistas that were both vast and intimate. Distant horizons gave way to close-up views of deep valleys and craggy peaks.

Reaching Almería, the sense of traversing through time was palpable. From its ancient Alcazaba fortress to its contemporary streets, the city seemed like a culmination of the journey’s blend of history and nature.

The entire drive, especially through the mountain roads, felt like an emotional roller coaster. The combination of the thrill from navigating the twisty paths, with the awe inspired by the panoramic views, made it an unforgettable experience. It wasn’t just a journey from one city to another; it was a ride through time, nature, and raw emotion.

During my stay near Almería, I took the opportunity to rest and recharge, especially since the increasing winds made the previous parts of the drive quite tiring. The weather was turning cooler, but it didn’t stop me from exploring the local scene.

I found a great tapas bar shaded by trees, where both locals and tourists seemed to gather. It was a good indication of its popularity and authenticity. I enjoyed trying a plate of fried local fish and seafood there. Even though the air had a bit of a chill, the smell of the sea was evident and pleasant.

Overall, my time near Almería was a combination of relaxation and gearing up for the next part of my journey. The local food, atmosphere, and the chance to unwind were exactly what I needed after the challenging drive.
